Mutton Bustin'is one of the evening’s most popular events and offers youngsters between
the ages of 5 and 8 a chance to begin their own rip-roaring rodeo careers. Each rodeo evening, 10 helmet-wearing cowpokes
have an opportunity to ride a “wooley bulley” inside the rodeo arena. Here's how it works: With a sheep readied in the
“chute”, a child is set on its back - arms wrapped tightly around the neck. When the chute gate opens out comes the sheep and
rider. The small cowboy/cowgirl will hold on and ride the sheep for as long as they can! Whether it's a one second or ten second
ride, these youngsters are in for a wild, exciting and memorable time. What fun!
Registration for mutton bustin' is open to the first six entries received by mail or fax, prior to rodeo week. An additional
four contestants are chosen each night by lottery from entry forms submitted that evening. Parents must sign the entry/waiver
form and be present for the event. For information on previous Mutton Bustin' winners, check the
Rodeo Results page!
The Calf Catch or Calf Scramble is another event for young cowboys and cowgirls and is as
much fun for the kids as it is to watch! Contestants between the ages of 8 and 12 race after wily calves turned loose in the rodeo
arena. The objective: chase down a calf, grab one object attached to it and return to the gate. A prize awaits each contestant
and the winners!
Registration for the calf catch can be done by mail or fax, prior to
rodeo week or at the Mutton Bustin' booth inside the spectator entrance gate
the night of the rodeo.
Parents must sign the entry/waiver form and be present for the event. Held during the Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening
rodeos, this event is limited to the first 100 registrants. Register by 7 pm the night of the rodeo.
Pre-registration for both events begins April 15th. Registration information can be found on the
forms page of this website. All contestants must
check in at the Mutton Bustin' booth on the night they are scheduled to ride.
