Rodeo Parade
Tuesday, July 6, 2010
10:30 am
Downtown Estes Park

Kicking off rodeo week festivities will be the traditional Rooftop Rodeo Parade on Tuesday, July 6th at 10:30 a.m., in downtown Estes Park. The 2010 parade theme is “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys”. Bands, groups on horseback, floats, unique automobiles, rodeo royalty and more will add a distinctively western flavor to Estes Park as the colorful entourage makes its way along Elkhorn Avenue and then on to the fairgrounds. If you have a group that would like to be in our parade please call 970-586-1981 or 970-586-6104 for information. If you are in the parade, line up starts at 9:00.

Rodeo Kickoff
Each Night of Rodeo

Each evening the gates open at 5:30. Come browse and shop at vendor booths, watch special entertainment, skip cooking and have some chow and beverages in a western atmosphere. Sign up for the Behind the Chutes tour at 5:45 and get a personal tour of the livestock, arena equipment, the competitors, clowns, stock contractor and people that make it all happen. This is your chance to learn more about the sport of rodeo from the pros, ask questions and see a major part of how a rodeo works. Afterward settle in for that chow and cool beverages, meet old and new friends and be welled settled in time for the Rodeo Kickoff at 6:45!

Rooftop History Night
Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Last year (2009) we started what we feel will become a Rooftop tradition. We invited all of our past Queens and competitors to join us for the Tuesday night rodeo performance. If you competed at our rodeo or were on one of the early rodeo committees we want to celebrate you as well. Call the fairgrounds office at 970-586-6104 and let them know of your previous participation. We are proud of our history and if you were part of it we went to hear from you.

Old Mexico Day
Thursday, July 8, 2010

Lifelong Learning of Estes Valley (LLEV), is a non-denominational Christian-based educational program for children of preschool and kindergarten ages in Estes Valley. It works to provide scholarships and tuition assistance programs to enable families of all income levels, races, colors, national origin, or ethnic origin to participate. On Thursday, in Bond Park in downtown Estes Park, and later at the fairgrounds midway, LLEV is working with Spanish - speaking families of Estes Park to present a traditional Mexican "kermes" or outdoor party with music and food. Authentic Mexican dishes are being donated by local restaurants and sold by the families of LLEV. There will be Spanish speaking and English speaking people selling the food under one tent. The food will include pozole, fried tacos, enchiladas, gorditas, burritos, corn on the cob and cakes. Drinks will include sodas and water.

Separate booths will include a dunk booth, jumpy air castle, and a "Civil Registry" booth. This is a quick marriage and divorce booth and is a traditional booth at Mexican celebrations. Children dressed in traditional costumes will dance and sing Mexican and Western songs on a stage. A sound system will play Mexican music throughout the afternoon.

Thursday Night at the Rodeo

The dancers and singers will perform in the midway dressed in traditional costumes, dancing to traditional Mexican music.

An opportunity to Help

This is going to be a great day but we still need sponsors. We particularly are looking for a Mariachi band to provide traditional music. A tape player is OK but a real Mariachi band would be fantastic. If you are willing to donate time, money, or talent to this community effort please contact Nancy Johnson at 970-577-9864 or the fairgrounds office at 970-586-6104.

Queens Dance
Saturday, July 10, 2010
9:00 pm

Youth Day
Sunday, July 11, 2010

The Junior Rodeo Committee (JRC) and our Queens are sponsoring youth rodeo games at Bond Park from 1:00-4:00. If you have youngsters who want to participate in a stick rodeo, learn how to handle a rope or meet our rodeo queens bring them to Bond Park in downtown Estes Park Sunday afternoon. There will also be activities at the fairgrounds midway starting at 5:30. Of course, if your kids want to get into the big arena where the professional rodeo cowboys compete then they will want to participate in this year’s “Calf Catch.” See the calf catch button on the main page or just punch Calf Catch.
