Mayor’s Message: Lazy, memories, camaraderie, fund-raising and Estes’ spirit made the rodeo a blast

The Rooftop Rodeo, held annually in Estes Park is always good fun. This year it was especially so for me. Read on to find out why.
First off, after a three-year hiatus, there was a Rooftop Parade. And I, as mayor, was asked to be in it. Much to my surprise, Cindy Schonholtz, the rodeo coordinator for the Town arranged with Cervi, the rodeo livestock provider, for me to ride their horse Lazy in the parade. He and I met the day before the parade. After showing that I did indeed know how to ride, we became partners.

As the curtain dropped on the 2023 edition of Rooftop Rodeo on Monday, the biggest name in the sport stood above all the rest. Stetson Wright has been the winningest cowboy in ProRodeo the last four seasons, and he doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon. He owns seven world titles: Four all-around, two bull riding and one in saddle bronc riding.

ESTES PARK, Colo. – Just two days before his 23rd birthday, Tyler Boxleitner gave himself a bit of a present.
He roped and tied his calf in 12.1 seconds during Sunday’s fifth performance of the Rooftop Rodeo to move into a share of the tie-down roping lead with one day left in the Town of Estes Park signature event. What makes it special are the facts around his 2023 run at the rodeo just 20 miles from his home in Loveland, Colorado.
